Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong is delighted to welcome Jane Jørgensen, Director of Admissions and Marketing at Abingdon School UK, for an insightful visit to our campus. Jane’s visit marks a significant moment as she last visited us five years ago when we were in the early stages with just a handful of pupils. Today, she was pleasantly surprised to see our school buzzing with a vibrant student community – “When I visited the school back in September 2019 the focus of my tour was on the building and facilities. And today, five years later, that same building is simply buzzing with life! I experienced the evident enthusiasm, curiosity and energy of the pupils.” remarks Ms Jørgensen.
During her visit, Jane introduced our Year 5 to Year 8 pupils to Abingdon School, founded in 1256 and located 10 minutes from the city of Oxford. As the one of the oldest schools in England, Abingdon has a rich history and a strong commitment to academic excellence and holistic education.
Excitingly, Abingdon School will soon be opening its doors to girls starting in September 2026, initially for day students, with plans to expand to Third Year and Sixth Form students by September 2028. This marks a significant development in the school’s history, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and growth.
Jane highlighted Abingdon’s strengths in STEM and Computer Science, emphasizing the school’s dedication to fostering a love for these critical subjects. The school also encourages students to engage in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Combined Cadet Force (CCF), and various overseas expeditions that included husky sledding in Finland.
In addition to welcoming girls, Abingdon has experienced phenomenal development of its facilities, and recently opened new boarding accomodation allowing for an increase in the number of students able to board. A spectacular new dining hall was also opened last year. This expansion underscores the school’s commitment to providing top-notch facilities and a supportive environment for all its pupils.
We are grateful to Jane Jørgensen for her visit and for sharing the exciting developments at Abingdon School. Our pupils were inspired by her presentation and the opportunities that Abingdon offers. We look forward to fostering a closer relationship with Abingdon School in the future.
