Curriculum Overview
We offer the National Curriculum for England and Wales, enriched by Hong Kong’s cultural context and aligned with British Common Entrance Examination standards. Through combining foundational subjects—Mathematics, Science, Creative and Performing Arts, and Humanities—with innovative programmes in iSteam, Entrepreneurship and Leadership, we foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing students for top senior schools and beyond.
Central to our approach is a holistic education that fosters intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. While our school is an English-medium environment, we prioritise language fluency with equal emphasis on Mandarin and English, ensuring students thrive in multilingual environments. Through mandatory iSTEAM (Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) integration, we inspire future-ready innovators capable of tackling real-world challenges.
Every aspect of our future-proof curriculum is designed to empower students to become independent, critical thinkers, ready to excel in their next academic step.
Curriculum Highlights

iSTEAM
Our award-winning iSTEAM programme is an interdisciplinary fusion of ICT, technology, robotics, coding, engineering, mathematics, science, and art and design. Unlike many Hong Kong schools where iSTEAM, commonly known as STEM or STEAM, is offered as an extracurricular activity, it is integrated as a mandatory subject within our weekly subject timetable.
The holistic assessment framework is what sets our iSTEAM curriculum apart, evaluating not only academic skills but also essential life skills and values including resilience, adaptability, collaboration, risk-taking, honesty, and integrity. This well-rounded approach equips students to excel in their academic, personal, and professional endeavours.

Sport
Our sports facilities offer a dynamic environment for a diverse range of physical activities and feature the highest indoor climbing wall in a school in Hong Kong.
Our comprehensive Physical Education (PE) curriculum goes beyond curriculum skills development, including competitive sports games against other top schools in Hong Kong, such as Kellet. Our partnership with Hong Kong Football Club gives our pupils access to the best sports facilities around, as well as world-class coaching.
As part of our holistic education focus, we recognise the vital connection between mental and physical well-being and understand how sport fosters social awareness, teamwork, and commitment among our students, ensuring they develop essential life skills through engaging in athletic activities.

Chinese
Our passionate and expert Mandarin department delivers a robust curriculum underscored by a unique strength: students engage in Chinese classes with equal instructional time to core academic subjects. This structure fosters exceptional linguistic proficiency, cultural fluency, and confidence in using Mandarin across academic and real-world contexts.
Our commitment to the quality of Chinese teaching and the value we place on Chinese language and cultural learning prepares students for an international landscape as they become prepared for life abroad and in Hong Kong.
Specialised Programmes
Entrepreneurship
We offer entrepreneurship education to Year 6 and above, equipping students with real-world skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities essential for senior school, university and life beyond.
What sets our programme apart is its hands-on approach—students don’t just learn business concepts, they apply them by launching and managing real ventures. Through this experience, they develop creativity, resilience, and leadership, giving them a competitive edge for university and future careers.
By fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, we prepare students not just for their next academic step, but for a future where innovation and adaptability are key to success.
Intensive English
Our Intensive English (IE) Programme is designed for students with strong academic potential but limited English proficiency. The programme tailors learning to each child’s abilities, integrating the British and Cambridge Global English curriculum.
Through small classes and individual support, students develop foundational language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) to prepare them for success in an English-medium environment.
The IE Programme is available for Years 3–8, with duration varying by student. Most transition to mainstream classes after at least one term, based on readiness.
Extra-curricular Activities
Our award-winning Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) programme offers students a dynamic platform to explore their passions and talents through a diverse range of opportunities. From Creative Arts and Musical Theatre to RoboCode, iSTEAM, and competitive sports like Basketball, Tennis, and Ultimate Frisbee, we encourage curiosity and skill-building in a supportive environment. Activities such as Debate and Public Speaking encourage creativity, critical thinking, and confidence, while clubs like Chinese Book Club and Mindful Colouring foster cultural appreciation and emotional well-being.
ECAs play a vital role in holistic development, empowering children to discover and pursue their passions beyond the classroom. Through active engagement in ECAs, students cultivate transferable skills, explore passions beyond the classroom, and develop the well-rounded character and initiative that distinguish competitive applicants to UK boarding schools.
We offer over 60 ECAs during the school year, including (but not limited to):

Student Life
Students thrive in an academically rigorous environment designed to develop independent, self-motivated learners. Each day is a dynamic blend of challenging academics, innovative, tech-driven learning experiences, and personalised support, ensuring students are fully prepared for success at top secondary schools, whether they choose to remain in Hong Kong or attend senior school abroad.
Every class is supported by a dedicated Teaching Assistant (TA) who accompanies students throughout the entire school day. Working closely with teachers, the TAs provide added academic, social and emotional support. This consistent, personalised presence ensures students receive holistic support throughout their school experience, empowering them to thrive confidently in their learning environment and beyond.
A Day in A Life
Experience the rhythm and excitement of a typical day at our Prep School, where learning comes alive through engaging activities, meaningful connections, and joyful discovery.
Before School
As the school day begins, students line up outside the main entrance, where they are warmly greeted by our Headmaster and Deputy Head. At 7:50am, the students are guided to their respective classrooms for a form time session with their Class Teacher and Teaching Assistant, laying a positive foundation for the day ahead.
Assembly
On designated days of the week, the students attend their key stage-specific assemblies, where they receive important announcements, recognition for their achievements, and often enjoy guest performances or visitors. On Fridays, the whole school gathers for assembly together to encourage a sense of community and shared purpose.
Lessons
The school day officially begins at 8:00am with lessons starting at 8.25am. Students engage in three 35-minute lessons before their 20-minute snack break at 10:10am. After the break, they return to their classrooms for another three lessons, concluding at 12:15pm. Lunch takes place from 12:15pm to 1:15pm. The final three lessons take place after lunch, and end at 3:00pm.
Snack & Lunch Times
During the 20-minute snack break in the morning, students have the opportunity to socialise with their peers, either indoors in their classrooms, in the atrium, or outdoors on the football pitch, depending on the weather. Snack and lunch times are supervised by our dedicated teaching staff to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. Lunchtime is divided into two parts – playtime outside on the football pitch, where they can read, play, or participate in activities, and their meal in the dining hall.
Extracurricular Activities
After lessons conclude at 3:00pm, students will head to an extracurricular activity of their choice following a 15-minute break. Students can participate in a wide range of ECAs (extracurricular activities), including sports such as football and wall climbing, cultural pursuits like music and art and academic enrichment such as iSTEAM and Robotics. ECAs are held from 3:15pm to 4:15pm, allowing students to explore their interests and develop new skills.
End of School
The school day concludes at 4:15pm, with students gathering in the atrium to be picked up by their parents or board their school buses.

Pastoral Care
We prioritise creating a supportive environment where every student feels valued, understood, and encouraged. Our small class sizes allow for personalised attention, helping students build strong relationships with teachers and peers in a close-knit school community.
Each student benefits from a dedicated form tutor who provides individualised guidance, supporting their social, emotional, and academic development. Through this holistic approach, we aim to empower students to grow in confidence, resilience, and independence—key skills for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Our personalised support system ensures every learner receives the care and mentorship they need to thrive academically and personally.
Year 7 & 8 Leadership
Our Year 7 and 8 students hold a unique position as senior leaders within the prep school—a rare opportunity in Hong Kong, where students of this age typically begin secondary school as juniors. Instead, they take on bespoke leadership roles such as prefectships, peer mentoring, and project stewardship, fostering responsibility and confidence. This approach aligns with a pivotal stage of adolescent development, placing students in a familiar, supportive environment where teachers know them well. Students benefit from this continuity as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally—preparing them for success in their educational journey.

A Seamless Pathway to Senior School
At Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong, we are committed to supporting every student’s ambitions—whether they aspire to join our Senior School or pursue opportunities at leading UK boarding schools. Our Prep School curriculum and pastoral care are designed to ensure a smooth transition for all, providing the academic foundation, confidence, and guidance needed for success in the next stage of their educational journey. Additionally, our focus on holistic development as well as leadership, creativity, and resilience, empower students to thrive, no matter which path they choose.
