Q&A with Mr. Jonathan Rainville

Tell us about your role at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong.
I am a Year 6 Class Teacher here at Wycombe Abbey. I also help coach core sports for all grades.

What inspired you to become a teacher?
Both of my parents were teachers, and I have always been drawn to helping students reach their potential. It brings me great joy to watch a student achieve in an area that they initially considered to be a weakness.

How would you describe your teaching style?
I consider my teaching style to be a hybrid of different approaches. I always give students guidance, but also room to learn on their own. It’s important for all students to feel proud of their learning.

What’s one thing you hope students take away from your teaching?
I always wish for my students to become more confident in their learning abilities every day. When students believe in themselves, they can do great things.

What do you love about Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong?
What I love about Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong is the amazing faculty and wonderful students. I also love the wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities that Wycombe Abbey offers.

Are you involved in any extracurricular activities, school events, or initiatives?
Yes, I am a coach in all of the core sports at Wycombe Abbey. It’s great to be active every day.

What book, movie, or song would you recommend to your students—and why?
As a history buff, I recommend all types of books on history!

What are your hobbies or interests outside of school? What is a fun fact about yourself?
My biggest hobbies are hiking and camping. Fun fact: I have met two US Presidents!

What are you looking forward to most this year?
I’m really looking forward to this year’s camp. I think it’s so important for students to explore nature and get out of their comfort zone.

We are excited to welcome Mr. Rainville to the Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong community. His teaching approach reminds us that learning is as much about discovery as it is about achievement. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or outdoors in nature, his influence will inspire pupils to challenge themselves, grow with confidence, and take pride in every step of their journey.

Stay tuned for more introductions in our Introducing Our New Teachers Series as we continue to welcome exceptional educators to Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong.
