What curriculum does Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong follow?

Our prep school follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales, enriched by Hong Kong’s cultural context and aligned with British Common Entrance Examination standards. Through combining foundational subjects—Mathematics, Science, Creative and Performing Arts, and Humanities—with innovative programmes in iSteam (mandatory), Entrepreneurship and Leadership, we foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing students for top senior schools and beyond. 

Our senior school curriculum is designed for IGCSEs and A-Levels, building a strong foundation in iSTEAM, English, and Mandarin while going beyond traditional academics. What sets us apart is our future-focused approach, seamlessly integrating entrepreneurship, leadership, and digital learning as mandatory programmes. 

While Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong is an English-medium environment, we prioritise language fluency with equal emphasis on Mandarin and English within the weekly timetable, ensuring students thrive in multilingual environments. Through mandatory iSTEAM (Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) integration, we inspire future-ready innovators capable of tackling real-world challenges. 

What are the class sizes at Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong?

Class sizes are intentionally kept small, averaging 15-20 students per class, with a maximum of 24. Once a class reaches this cap, it will be split to maintain individualised attention. Each class is led by one teacher, supported by an additional teaching assistant, ensuring personalised guidance and support for every student.

What is the school timetable at Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong?

The school day at our prep school officially begins at 8:00am with lessons starting at 8.20am. Students engage in three 35-minute lessons before their 20-minute snack break at 10:05am. After the break, they return to their classrooms for another three lessons, concluding at 12:10pm. Lunch takes place from 12:10pm to 1:00 pm. The final 3 lessons take place after lunch, and end at 2:45pm. 

The senior school day begins at 8:00am and consists of eight 40-minute periods. Classes officially conclude at 4:30am. Students may stay on campus until 7:00am for tailored support, where teachers rotate on a bi-weekly basis, offering focused subject-specific sessions tailored to individual learning needs. These clinics provide the extra time and attention necessary to help students overcome challenges, reinforce key concepts, and build confidence in their studies.

Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong pupils consistently achieve outstanding academic results. Our prep school graduates have been awarded places at prestigious UK boarding schools, including Wycombe Abbey, Eton College, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Abingdon, Benenden, Badminton, and Rugby, as well as leading international schools in Hong Kong, such as Harrow Hong Kong, Chinese International School, ISF, and HK International School. What extracurricular activities are available at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong? 

Our extracurricular activities programme is designed to complement the academic curriculum and provide students with opportunities to develop their skills, interests, and passions. It features a diverse range of sports, music, art, drama, languages, clubs, and societies tailored to various levels and abilities. We also offer ECAs that foster teamwork, leadership, creativity, and social responsibility among our students. We continually enhance and expand our extracurricular options to keep them engaging and relevant.

Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong boasts modern and well-equipped facilities that we continually enhance to ensure our students remain future-ready. 

Prep School
Our prep school features a central multi-purpose atrium, two iSTEAM labs, well-equipped classrooms, science laboratories, a large drama and performance space, music facilities with dedicated, acoustically optimised practice studios, a well-stocked library, an outdoor sports ground, and a rooftop sports pitch. Students also enjoy dedicated weekly access to premier hockey facilities at the prestigious Hong Kong Football Club. These are part of a broader suite of facilities, with ongoing enhancements to ensure our spaces remain innovative, future-ready, and responsive to evolving educational needs.

Senior School
Our senior school features an art studio, a design and iSTEAM lab, well-equipped science labs, a multipurpose drama and music studio, a modern cafeteria, and a comprehensive library. The Sixth Form Centre and collaborative co-working spaces further support creativity and teamwork, creating a dynamic environment for growth and enhancing the university-style experience. Students also enjoy access to a variety of sports grounds in surrounding areas. These represent just a selection of our resources, as we continuously expand and modernise our infrastructure to align with current educational needs.

Does Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong offer boarding facilities? 

No, Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong operates exclusively as a day school and does not provide boarding facilities. 

Does the school provide transport?

Yes, the school offers bus transport for all students to and from school. Most pupils utilise our school bus service, which covers a wide area of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Additionally, some students choose to take public transport, with numerous routes available to both of our locations. 

Does the school offer catered lunch or can students bring lunch?

Yes, Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong offers a comprehensive school lunch programme in partnership with Shamrock Catering Company, a trusted provider known for delivering nutritious meals that accommodate the diverse dietary needs of our students.

The monthly lunch menu is shared via our weekly school newsletter, along with a link to the online ordering platform. Students may either bring their own lunch or order from Shamrock Catering, but in both cases, they must bring their own dining utensils and take them home daily, as the school does not offer refrigeration or reheating facilities. For those bringing lunch from home, we encourage parents to pack healthy, balanced meals and avoid junk food, sweets, and sugary items. Parents may drop off lunches between 10:45am and 11:15am, or students can bring them in the morning.

For students attending our Senior School in Kowloon, there is the added option of dining at nearby cafés and eateries. This approach supports flexibility and fosters independence, giving students the opportunity to manage their time and make responsible choices in a setting that mirrors university life.

What are the admission requirements for Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong?

Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong is a selective institution. Admission considerations include academic potential, English language proficiency, demonstrated enthusiasm for learning, a positive attitude, and a commitment to engaging fully in school life.

What is the application deadline for Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong?

We currently operate on a rolling admissions basis, accepting applications throughout the year pending availability in each year group.

What is the application fee?

We do not require an application fee.

Does Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong offer scholarships or financial aid?

No, Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong does not currently provide scholarships or financial aid programmes.

If my child attends the Prep School, are they automatically accepted to attend the Senior School?

Yes, we are one school with a seamless transition between campuses. Except in special circumstances, all pupils progress directly from Year 8 at our prep school in Aberdeen to Year 9 at our senior school in Kowloon City.

Can my child join Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong if they are academically capable but not fluent in English?

Yes, our Intensive English (IE) Programme is designed for students with strong academic potential but limited English proficiency. The programme tailors learning to each child’s abilities, integrating the British and Cambridge Global English curriculum. Through small classes and individual support, students develop foundational language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) to prepare them for success in an English-medium environment. 

The duration of the IE Programme is flexible and personalised. Most students transition to mainstream classes after a minimum of 2 terms, but progress depends on individual readiness. 

The IE Programme is available for students in Years 3 to 8. Pupils in Years 7 and 8 undergo additional assessments via Cambridge Global English evaluations to ensure a smooth transition. 

While we don’t offer an IE Programme in the Senior School, we collaborate closely with BE Education to provide on-site, one-to-one tutoring after school hours. 

Can I visit Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong?
