A Week of Celebration: Honouring Growth, Legacy, and the Future

It has been a truly momentous week at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong — one that brought our community together in celebration, reflection, and shared pride.

Across a week of special events, from the formal opening of our Senior School to a memorable gala dinner and enriching campus visits from Wycombe Abbey UK leadership, we honoured our shared achievements and looked ahead to the next chapter of our story.

The Opening Ceremony of Our Senior School: Marking a Historic Milestone

On Tuesday, 21 October 2025, we proudly celebrated the official opening of our Senior School — a landmark occasion symbolising a bold new chapter in our commitment to providing world-class UK education in Hong Kong.

We were honoured to welcome distinguished guests, including senior leaders from Wycombe Abbey UKPatrick Sherrington and Diana Rose, members of the Wycombe Abbey Board, and Nick Woods and Claire Leong from the Strategy and International Team — alongside Dr. Jeff Sze Chun Fai, Hong Kong’s Under Secretary for Education, and Sarah Robinson, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Consulate. Their presence highlighted the importance of this moment and reflected our shared mission to uphold educational excellence and innovation.

The ceremony included inspiring speeches, a commemorative plaque unveiling, and traditional elements such as the ceremonial cutting of the roast pig, followed by a vibrant lion dance performance. Our Year 12 pupils joined the celebration, following the lions as they paraded through the school, creating a wonderful moment of community spirit and good fortune that captured the essence of our school culture.

It was an afternoon of celebration, pride, and unity, and will remain in our history as the beginning of an exciting new era for our school.

Gala Dinner: A Tribute to Our Journey

The celebrations continued on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, with a gala dinner — a formal gathering that brought together our extended community of leaders, supporters, and friends from across the world.

Guests included senior representatives from Wycombe Abbey UK, the British Consulate, InvestHK, as well as investors, teachers, parents, and members of the Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong Advisory Board. The evening reflected the strength of our global community and the shared vision that unites us across continents.

The evening’s speeches — delivered by Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong Headmaster Rob Fox, Chairman and Advisory Board Member Patrick Sherrington, and BE Education Founder and Chairman William Vanbergen — offered reflections on the collaborative effort behind this milestone, a tribute to Howard Tuckett, our founding Headmaster, and a bold vision for the school’s future.

Set against the elegant backdrop of the event, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and purpose. From a lively drinks reception to a delicious buffet and conversations that continued well into the evening, it was an occasion that honoured the school’s journey and those who have shaped it.

Campus Visits from Wycombe Abbey Leadership: Connecting Across Continents

Throughout the week, our guests from Wycombe Abbey UK spent time across both our Senior and Prep School campuses.

During their visit, Patrick Sherrington and Diana Rose, members of our Advisory Board, together with Nick Woods and Claire Leong from the Strategy and International Team, met with pupils and teachers, observed lessons in action, and engaged in discussions around future collaborations.

Their feedback was filled with praise for our pupils’ confidence and curiosity, which is a true testament to our school’s culture.

We were also delighted to sit down for an exclusive interview with Mr Sherrington and Ms Rose to hear their reflections on their visit. Stay tuned as we share their insights in the coming weeks.

Reflections from Our Headmaster

As the week drew to a close, Headmaster Rob Fox reflected on the sense of community and achievement that permeated the celebrations:

‘It has been a wonderful week bringing together the wider school community including staff, parents and supporters of Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong. This week has showcased the very best of our school, drawing on the rich heritage of Wycombe Abbey, the UK’s top boarding school, alongside our dynamic setting in Hong Kong.’

He added:

‘The real strength in our school lies in the strong relationships across our community. We are fortunate to have dedicated and talented teachers who work alongside our supportive and engaged parents to ensure that every student is happy and successful.’

Looking Ahead

This week of celebration brought moments of reflection that remind us how collaboration, vision, and shared purpose can shape extraordinary things.

As we look ahead to the next chapter of Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong, we remain steadfast in our mission to deliver world-class education that not only promotes academic excellence but also develops character, curiosity, and leadership.
