We were delighted to host the Wycombe Abbey Schools Speech Festival (WASSF), a vibrant cross-campus celebration of language, learning, and performance. It was a privilege to welcome talented students from our schools in Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Changzhou to our Hong Kong campus. Together, we created a truly memorable experience that went far beyond the stage.

A Platform for Language and Collaboration
The festival provided a wonderful platform for our pupils to showcase their talents in both Chinese and English speech. Leading up to the final, students participated in multiple rounds of competition at their respective schools, demonstrating dedication and passion for language every step of the way. It was inspiring to witness their confidence as they took to the stage for the final performances in Hong Kong, the culmination of weeks of hard work and preparation.
However, the heart of the event lay in its spirit of collaboration. By bringing together students from four different schools, we aimed to:
- Encourage meaningful cultural exchange
- Foster new friendships across campuses
- Build a stronger, more connected learning community

Experiencing Hong Kong
As the host school, we were delighted to share a taste of life in Hong Kong. Our visitors immersed themselves in the local environment through a series of curated cultural activities, including:
- Big Bus Tour of Hong Kong Island – A classic sightseeing adventure through the city’s vibrant streets
- Peak Tram Ride – A breathtaking journey to Victoria Peak to admire the world-famous skyline
- Hong Kong Science Museum – Hands-on projects that sparked curiosity and exploration
- Traditional Dim Sum Tasting – A culinary highlight; the students loved the delicious food and embraced this local tradition

Learning Alongside Local Students
To give our guests a genuine experience of our school community, they also had the chance to learn alongside our Hong Kong students by joining their classes. This allowed them to:
- Experience firsthand the rhythm of daily school life in Hong Kong
- Build connections with their peers in a natural and engaging setting

More Than a Competition
Ultimately, this experience offered our students something truly special. While the speech performances were a testament to their confidence and skill, the festival was about so much more than competition. It was about:
- Connecting with others across cultures
- Building confidence performing in front of a large audience
- Strengthening social skills and forming new friendships
- Creating lasting memories through shared experiences
From sightseeing to sharing a meal, every moment was an opportunity for personal growth and genuine cultural exchange.

Congratulations to Our Winners
We are incredibly proud of all the participants for their hard work and wonderful performances. A special congratulations goes to our winners from WASHK, whose dedication has been an inspiration to us all.
Events like this remind us of the power of bringing our community together, and we look forward to the continued bonds of friendship forged across the Wycombe Abbey family.
