We are pleased to introduce Mr Duncan Robert Grewcock, History Teacher at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong. Teaching Years 9, 10 and 12, Mr Grewcock brings an inquiry-based and engaging approach to the classroom, drawing on more than 20 years of international business experience to help pupils connect their learning with life beyond school.

Q&A with Mr Grewcock
Tell us about your role at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong.
I am joining the Humanities Department as a History Teacher, teaching Year 9, Year 10 GCSE and Year 12 A-level History.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
Teaching is the job I have always wanted to do. After starting my career in teaching and then spending over 20 years in international business, I wanted to bring that experience back into the classroom and help students prepare for life beyond school.
How would you describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is inquiry-based, engaging and student-focused — and, hopefully, fun!
What’s one thing you hope students take away from your teaching?
I hope students learn to be passionate about whatever they choose to do.
What do you love about Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong?
I really value the engaging, empathetic and supportive colleagues here, from the teaching staff to senior management.
Are you involved in any extracurricular activities, school events, or initiatives?
I will be leading Multi-Sport on Wednesdays, including touch rugby, Kwik cricket and frisbee. I believe sport promotes health and wellbeing while developing teamwork, resilience and balance alongside academic study.
What book, movie, or song would you recommend to your students—and why?
The last book I read was Tokyo Express by Seichō Matsumoto, which reminded me of my time living in Japan. For a film, I would choose Christopher Nolan’s Inception. I also enjoy karaoke, so my song choice would be Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.
What are your hobbies or interests outside of school? What is a fun fact about yourself?
I love playing, watching and coaching rugby, and I play and coach at Hong Kong Football Club. I also enjoy watching my sons play rugby and hiking with my family and our two dogs.
What are you looking forward to most this year?
Most of all, I am looking forward to getting to know our students and sharing my passion for history and learning with them.

Through an engaging, inquiry-based approach, he hopes to inspire pupils to develop a passion for learning while preparing them for life beyond school.
