Voices from Our Senior School Community: Parent Testimonials

Voices from Our Senior School Community: Parent Testimonials

In August 2025, Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong proudly opened its Senior School, marking a significant milestone in our mission to provide a world-class, holistic British education for students in Hong Kong.

As we progress through the academic year and approach the end of the second term, we recently invited parents of Senior School students to share their experiences so far. Their reflections offer meaningful insight into the ethos, community, and impact of a WASHK education.

What follows is a collection of their stories, in their own words. Each parent takes us on their family’s journey: what first attracted them to the school, and the deeper reasons they have chosen to stay.

John Cheng’s son, a Year 9 student, has been at the school for nearly six years. His family’s journey began with practical considerations but deepened because of the school’s approach to children as individuals.

“It was the small class size and personalised attention which helped us to make the decision to keep our kids here for almost six years. All of the staff are very intuitive; they solve problems with kids rather than passing the problems to parents. The teachers are very encouraging; they see the good and potential in kids rather than picking on their weaknesses.

Through the many ECAs, our children can experience everything from sport, debate, science, chess and entrepreneurship. This approach helps our kids to be more confident, and that’s reflected in their genuine happiness.”

Nicole Chan, parent of a Year 8 student, spoke to the sense of security and warmth that defines the school environment. “We chose Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong for its solid academic foundation, comprehensive pastoral care, and emphasis on holistic education. We want our child to grow up happy, secure, and valued.

We were most surprised by how inclusive and supportive the community is; teachers, students, and parents feel like one big, warm family. We enjoy the performances and celebration events the most, where children showcase talent, build confidence, and create unforgettable family memories.”

Rong Chen, parent of a Year 9 student, also echoed this sentiment – highlighting the integration of academic excellence with cultural richness.

“We chose Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong for its holistic education, excellent academics, and seamless fusion of the British curriculum with Chinese culture.

Through extracurriculars, our child has built teamwork, confidence, creativity, and leadership, while exploring new interests and forming meaningful friendships. The school prepares students by cultivating critical thinking, innovation, collaboration, global perspective, independent learning, and strong character.”

Xiaoyan Wei, parent of Year two 10 students, offered a comprehensive view of the school’s impact on their daughters’ development.

“I chose Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong because of its excellent academic reputation, holistic education philosophy, and strong focus on character and leadership development. The school combines traditional British education with an international outlook, fostering critical thinking and well-rounded growth.

Holistic education has helped my children develop not only academically but also socially and emotionally. They became more confident, independent, and willing to take on challenges. The school’s focus on character, teamwork, and all-round development has made her more responsible, respectful, and open-minded.”

Gao Yan, parent of a Year 12 student, shared their child’s pure enjoyment of the school experience.

“Wycombe Abbey Hong Kong provides a wonderful study environment, and it’s clear that the school truly values traditional Chinese culture. Our child enjoys the school very much.”

Pam Lee, parent of a Year 10 student, appreciated the school’s ability to help her son see himself and the world differently.

“I admire the holistic education provided by WASHK. Teachers are caring and attentive to children as classes are small.

My son has grown in confidence, learned to value himself, and gained new perspectives about the people and world around him. Experiences such as overseas trips have strengthened his collaboration skills, confidence, and independence. Through ECAs, he has also learned to socialise, be respectful, and take responsibility. He’s having a wonderful time at this school.”

Abby Shek, parent of a Year 12 student, offered a simple yet powerful endorsement: her daughter is genuinely happy to be here.

“WASHK is a well-known name in the UK. The teachers are all very professional and it is a very caring school. My daughter is so happy to be a student here.”

Bernard Tang, parent of a Year 10 student, appreciated the school’s academic rigour and the windows it opens to the wider world.

“The maths teacher stayed after school to help with revision. There were also opportunities for students to learn Korean and explore its culture. The programme places a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and iSTEAM, and the IGCSE and International A-Levels course offerings make it easier for students to study abroad.”

Jing Liu, parent of a Year 9 student, shared her appreciation for the school’s approach to bilingualism and community building.

“I truly appreciate the British education system at WASHK, as it makes English learning much more effective. The communication between teachers and parents is excellent, creating a warm and supportive community that helps families transition smoothly from mainland schools to Hong Kong.

The school offers rich ECAs, meaningful English-Chinese cultural exchange, and opportunities to experience both traditional British festivals and Chinese heritage. These experiences enrich not only the students’ lives but also allow parents to participate and learn alongside them.

Teachers are incredibly responsible and provide timely support and encouragement whenever students face challenges. My child has formed strong friendships, developed new interests, and grown to love learning and life. The school inspires students to explore the world, set high standards for themselves, and create meaningful achievements.

WASHK is a truly high-quality school that sets students up for a promising future. As part of a prestigious and long-established education network, it offers excellent prospects and connections. I am proud to be part of this community and very willing to recommend it.”
