Last weekend, our Entrepreneurship Program participants embarked on an enlightening trip to Xiamen in Fujian province, deepening their understanding of the local tea industry, which is integral to their business project. This immersive experience allowed students to witness first-hand the cultivation and processing of tea, enhancing their appreciation for the product they sell.
During the trip, students engaged in a variety of activities, including picking tea leaves and learning about the intricate ten-step process involved in drying and preparing tea for market. A highlight was meeting the farmer who supplied the tea sold during our recent beach cleanup event. This connection reinforced the importance of local sourcing and sustainable practices in their entrepreneurial ventures.
Students also explored the rich heritage of Xiamen, visiting traditional shops, historical streets, and a beautiful temple nestled in the hills. The trip was not only educational but also a testament to the skills of our students. Notably, several took the initiative to negotiate with the tea farmer, showcasing their growing confidence and business acumen. Their ability to communicate in Putonghua while discussing prices with a calculator in hard was particularly impressive.
Furthermore, the trip provided opportunities for students to demonstrate teamwork and collaboration, especially during logistics like boarding the high-speed train and navigating immigration. Their respectful interactions with the public made us proud and highlighted the character development that accompanies our programs.
Overall, the 48-hour journey was an extraordinary success, leaving students with valuable insights and experiences that will undoubtedly shape their entrepreneurial journeys.
